In any underground market, certain goods become hot commodities and The Blow Up’s Black Market is no exception to that economic rule. Each week we’ll bring you the ‘Coveted Contraband’ from The Black Market (based on your ratings).
Check out this week’s gem Whygul and continue to light 1-5 stars for future submissions so they can separate themselves as highly coveted contraband!
Artist Name: Whygul
Hometown: Seattle, WA
I’m just a producer/DJ who makes soulful jams and goes to school at UW with the rest of my time. These days I’m trying to make music that moves you. If it can’t do that then what’s the point?
Finish this sentence: “When people hear me, they’re probably going to think of…”
That one middle school dance that was hella cracking.
What sparked your inspiration for a music career?:
I had a lot of alone time growing up and music was one of the few things that made me feel less lonely so I feel a need to give back to the culture that helped me in so many ways.
What crew do you roll with?:
There are a few artists around here that I’d like to collaborate with, but I’m trying to do my own thing for a little while and see how it goes.
Who are your go to producers?:
Anything done by the Neptunes or Ludwig Goransson is gold.
What other special talents can you throw down?:
While I’m not cheffing up songs or DJ mixes you can catch me whipping up a mean mac n cheese.
What separates you from the rest?:
My goals in music have less to do with selling the most records and more to do with helping as many people as I can. Whether that’s by helping other artists tell their story or sharing my own songs to make people momentarily forget about their troubles, they’re both equally important to me.
Be on the lookout for me wrestling a shark on periscope sometime soon.
