Inside The Project: FineMaltAstro “Hyper-Active”

By: Carrick Wenke

In keeping up with the promise that all the members of Fine Malt Lyrics would be dropping solo projects this year, FineMaltAstro occupies the second installment of that statement with his latest, Hyper-Active. Featuring 10 tracks of exactly what the title describes and a couple features from new FML members, it sets good anticipation for whose next to come.

How did you choose the title of your project?
I chose the name Hyper Active because I am a hyper active person almost all the time lol, and most of the music I make has a lot of energy behind it so I felt the name would fit.

Can you explain the story behind your artwork and who is the designer?
The story behind my art work is a old ass pic of me from like 4 years ago taken by my good bud Tre Ross on a polaroid camera. Tre thought it would we be a dope cover so I used it.

How long have you been working on this project?
Ive been working on this project for about 6 months.

Where was it recorded?
Most of the project was recorded at my brother from another and fellow F.M.L. new member King Elgin’s crib. He know what he’s doing on Pro Tools. He’s a monster with the effects…

Who are the producers?
I usually make all my own beats but for this project I wanted to make each song as soon as I heard the beat for the first time. So I dug up cool beats I found and pretty much freestyled to them. I think it’s boring as fuck writing to a beat and hearing it over and over. Shouts out all the random producers on my tape.

Who was featured?
King Elgin is featured in a lot of songs because he was there every time I recorded lol. I also got my guy Complex aka Lex on the tape. I also put my bro Sipp aka $ipp the newest member in F.M.L., shouts out Mississippi..

What was your favorite track?
My favorite track on the tape is….”So What”. It explains everything.

Who would you like to thank for helping with this project?
I want to thank my whole squad for giving me motivation and a reason to keep making music. I wanna thank King Elgin for letting me sit in his house and record all my music and not once saying I owe him anything (real one). I wanna thank my girlfriend for driving me to Elgin’s house all them times and being hella bored while I make my stupid music lol. I wanna thank God and my family.. One love.
