Interview By: Carrick Wenke
One of the funnest and most creative groups out of Seattle right now are by far SIQFUX, which includes the high energy of member GualaBoy. On Thanksgiving Day, Guala released his debut tape Sponsor Me, which showcases his energy over 8 tracks, including his second collab with Lil’ Keis, “Yabadabadoo”.
How did you choose the title of your project?
I had a couple ideas in mind, but I’m working on a longer project that’s gonna be about three tapes long and Sponsor Me is kinda the prequel to all of the next ones.
Can you explain the story behind your artwork and who is the designer?
I chose “Sponsor Me” and had my guy Excel Visuals make the cover for me. I had the whole idea based on a skateboarding “Sponsor Me” video since this tape has a lot of different sounds I’m going for. Kind of like a “sponsor me” tape for rapping not skating. Tryna show off all my styles ya know?
How long have you been working on this project?
I’ve actually had this project done like two months before I put it out, was just waiting for the right time to drop it.
Where was it recorded?
Mostly Undercaste Studios. “DoDo N The Skunk” was actually recorded at Excel’s house.
Who are the producers?
Got a couple different guys on there, got this dude Ditty Beatz just from YouTube, worked with BYOU$ before in the past, my homie “Ken Trippy Jr.”, and this dude Big Dirty from the bay who I met in San Diego he said he was homies with Mac Dre and Andre nickatina so I figured what a perfect person for a song called “Go Dummy”..
What was your favorite track?
My favorite track is “Dodo N The Skunk”, a lil tribute to the bay cuz I fuckin’ love that place and also a tribute to the legend Suga Free, pimpin’ since pimpin’ been a word!
Who would you like to thank for helping with this project?
I wanna thank all my homies, Ralph, Badluq James, Excelly, Jararri Alex, all the RUDE’s, anybody that been rockin’ with me and off top to BigFace for keeping me motivated. And FREE ELKUNICT!
