No artist wants to put out a project that they don’t think feels right, so with The Renaissance, Msanii spent 6-8 months, making sure it was the right fit. Gaining influence in the title from the Harlem Renaissance, The Renaissance is 8 tracks of good vibe music.
How did you choose the title of your project?
Well the title ,”The Renaissance” stemmed from the Harlem Renaissance. The Harlem Renaissance to me was like the negro movement, the boom era, a cultural artistic new wave. In comparison that’s the mentality I wanted to take on for my project, “the new wave”, so what other fitting title.
Can you explain the story behind your artwork and who is the designer?
The artwork came about through a picture actually, that was taken from a shoot with Wax Bando. It was one of my favorite pictures from the shoot because it was simple but straight to the point. But all credit goes out to the man with the plan who took that picture and made it gold, Razcal. I cant even take full credit for it. If you have a chance you should definitely check his work out, very talented, he produced “Loko” too.
How long have you been working on this project?
It took a good solid 6-8 months, it wasn’t so much about perfection but I just needed it to be right, you know? I didn’t want to put something out and it be half ass, honestly.
Where was it recorded?
I recorded majority of my project with my engineer Jamal “The Great” at his home studio and for a small portion of the project I recorded at Loud Water Studios with Mike Reason.
Who are the producers?
Ha! A lot! Definitely gotta give credit where credit is due. I had the pleasure to have production from Weird Clvn Producer, Mac XII, also known as Syringe. Other producers I worked with Razcal, CMPLX, Mj Nichols and Computofre$h.
Who was featured?
Artists that I had featured on the project are Al Chike, Lazy Rios and Visto. These artists in particular, I listen to there music on a daily, like I’m a true fan. So I felt it was a MUST that they were apart of my project. I would suggest to set time aside and check out there music as soon as possible!
What was your favorite track?
With all honesty I don’t have a favorite track. I digg all the songs on the project and bump every single one of them with the same amount of play time! So to answer your question, they are ALL MY FAVORITE!
Who would you like to thank for helping with this project?
I would like to thank all the people who took the time to listen to the project, I would like to send a personal “Thank you” to every single one of you. And also I want to thank all of the blogs and social outlets who featured my project on there feeds, I’m highly appreciative.
