By: Carrick Wenke

Like I stated previously, L.A.’s Rue is one of my favorite new artists. Dropping on Valentine’s Day her debut project RED, 4 ambient tracks including first single “Bleach”, and until-now video only single “Clouds”.

How did you choose the title of your project?
I chose “RED”, because Red was my favorite color as I made the project (still is currently). Red was just the color that always came to me as I was writing and recording and understanding what was happening in my head. Everything was red. Everything is red. Red to me symbolizes passion, fury, growth, mystery. I really saw red everywhere.

Can you explain the story behind your artwork and who is the designer?
The artwork is a picture my dad took of me on film in Nicaragua over the summer, which is where I lived as a kid. My friend saw it on the wall and was like THAT is an album cover. That picture is me in my truest form. The rest of the artwork I just did myself. I actually was filming the video to “Candyland” when he took that, which will be out soon.

How long have you been working on this project?
I wrote and recorded and mixed the entire thing in a month. I’ve been sitting on it for two.

Where was it recorded?
It was recorded at my friend Wes Period’s studio, who is also my engineer.

Who are the producers?
The sole producer for the project was BatmanOnTheBeatz, who is a really incredible producer.

Who was featured?
Nah.

What was your favorite track?
I don’t know.. probably “Guardian” just because it’s so honest. They all are but that one is the most raw. I wrote the first part and then just kind of freestyled the rest in the studio. I cried after. I didn’t even know what I was saying until it was said. That’s the beauty of music, it allows you to express feelings you otherwise wouldn’t know how to express.

Who would you like to thank for helping with this project?
There’s a lot of people, but really my angels, the people that held my hand through this process and taught me to be free.
