Have you liked The Blow Up fan page on Facebook? If not, you’re probably missing out on a bunch of cool things, including my bi-weekly rants! Every other week, I’ve been going live on our FB page, complaining about independent artist. It’s great thing for me because I’m able to get my frustrations out, but also offer useful advice to up and coming talent.
For my latest video, I covered Putting Yourself on With Shows! Performing a prime way to get yourself in front of new fans and large audiences, but if you’re not consistently moving towards building a name for yourself as a performer, you can’t expect to just “get on with shows”.
My points were simple:
-If you are new, and can’t get on with any shows due to your lack of resume, THROW YOUR OWN SHOW! It’ll be a great way for you to work on your skills, see what your actual draw is and you may even make some money.
-Make sure to record your performances and make a dope as highlight reel. It’ll work as a great tool to send out to talent buyers and promoters.
-Know your value. You’ll learn what kind of draw you have as you start doing more shows, but when selling yourself to the talent buyer, be honest. If you can bring only 25 paying guests, let them know. If you can bring 100 guests, and only 75 guests pay, let them know.
-Be persistent. If you send an email and don’t hear back, follow up. Then follow up again if you still don’t hear anything.
