It’s a holiday! What better way to celebrate than read something deep and unusual? Let’s like, slow it down maaan, and go deeper into the creative mind meshed with our girl MaryJ. Here in WA state, we are in Cannabis Nirvana and just float around on dank smelling clouds. With additional states joining in on the party, marijuana culture has become more mainstream than ever before. This is totally rad for a number of industries and the economy but like, snore right? What’s really beautiful about all this puffing and passing is what it has done for the artistic community. Photographers, writers, musicians, painters, and every creative little bud in between have embraced the culture. It also happens that Hiphop and dank go together like the two g’s in Snoop Dogg. Marijuana allows some people a lane to expand their creative selves in ways they may not be able to access otherwise. Personally, I always write baked and review for sense arranging later. I feel as if MJ opens more angles I am unable to see otherwise in my writing and photography/videography. My curiosity of other people’s inner workings led me to ask a few creatives in the community how they worked with boof too.

Happy Little Clouds to all 🙂

Describe how your creative flow is enhanced by smoking herb
Weed is like oil for the gears in my mind, they turn faster and more smoothly when I smoke. I’m a little bit more curious and less fearful after smoking so I often get really original and authentic ideas when I’m high. One idea leads really quickly to the next and that’s what I hope for when I’m creating… I’m trying to get into a smooth, momentous flow.
What’s one annoying stoner thing you keep finding yourself doing? (Like I loose shit everywhere)
I have an embarrassingly bad short term memory and I will straight up zone out/black out in the middle of conversations and I’ll either have to nod and pretend I was listening or ask the person to start all over. I’ll also often start talking to someone and immediately forget what I was planning to ask or say.
What’s your fave way to partake?
Roll spliffs or bong 🙂
Do you feel like the Seattle marijuana culture has impacted the music scene in the PNW?
Haven’t thought about it much but probably, yea, in really fundamental ways that it’s hard to pinpoint since music and marijuana have gone hand in hand in a way since the beginning of time I think. but As far as legalization goes, probably just that it’s easier for us to get bud whenever and wherever we want to which makes us happier campers haha.

Describe how your creative flow is enhanced by smoking herb
When I partake, it allows my mind to think so freely and ideas to just flow. It’s almost like a divine and universal connection that frees my mind from stress or mind chatter that would otherwise not allow creative thinking to happen.
Can you see/hear a difference between your artwork created while smoking vs not?
When I don’t partake, I’ll come up with an idea, and usually, I’ll end up hating it. Later when I go home and I start smoking, suddenly I have this eureka moment! and then I have to rush to sketch it all out before I lose it.
What’s one annoying stoner thing you keep finding yourself doing?
I’ve kind of trained myself out of that sort thing. I was told in my previous career that I can’t smoke at work if I can’t be productive. so because of that, I’ve become extremely focused and productive when I do partake.
What’s your fave way to partake?
I’m kind of an old fashioned girl. I love joints blunts and edibles.
What’s the coolest thing you’ve noticed as a result of cannabis culture being embraced by mainstream culture?
I’m glad that mainstream culture is viewing as a medicine and a solution rather than this evil thing. people need to be aware of the curative effects that this amazing plant has!

Describe how your creative flow is enhanced by smoking herb
I don’t say it “enhances” my creativity but it definitely mellows me out. (Currently smoking in studio). I think I had ADD as a kid and wasn’t prescribed anything. It’s my vivace but I can eat on it.
Can you see/hear a difference between your sounds created while smoking vs not?
I think I’m more laid back when I’m highed up, but I’m never not (high) anymore. In the day when I wouldn’t have it at a recording session, I def was messing up everywhere. I had to be high.
What’s one annoying stoner thing you keep finding yourself doing?
There’s a bunch! I can’t remember new names. It’s all bad. But eventually, I end up smoking with ya and somehow will associate your name with what we did.
What’s your fave way to partake?
I think vaporizing with a volcano is the cleanest, I’ve also got the highest on those. But I love combusting a hemp paper or rice paper. Right now I’m still rolling OCB papers.
Do you feel like the Seattle marijuana culture has impacted the music scene in the PNW?
They’ve always gone hand in hand. Hip hop definitely uplifts the culture the most. I wish people would learn more about it. As a dope cup winner in 2016 for best oil hybrid with ‘secret gardens of Washington’ I studied this plant so it definitely has an impact on hip hop culture but not with every genre of music.
