Misfit Yeager “Gloom Haze” – Interview

Do you need something to match the dark winter vibes pulsing through your mind? Then let me introduce you to Misfit Yeager’s newest project “Gloom Haze”. The Louisville native has created a sound for himself that has definite glooms and it reflects a very personal time for him. But I’ll let you read all about it with the interview below. Click play on the project and get to know Misfit Yeager.

Where are you from and what do you love the most about your hometown?
I’m from Louisville, KY. The things I love most about my hometown are the Louisville Cardinals basketball team and the city’s many street freaks.

Can you speak to what kind of things influenced your most recent project “Gloom Haze”? Maybe talk about your mindset at that time?
Yeah that’s all a reflection of my life from a few years back. I had just got robbed and then got kicked out of my house. I started doing “other” shit and getting in some trouble. I was sleeping out a car at one point. It was basically me and my boy Matus just hustling our way out of losing everything. We would of taken on the whole city at that point. The album goes into a lot of the mindsets and actions and the reflection of how those decisions still have an effect now. #FreeMatus.

What track hits you the hardest on it?
It’s a toss up between ‘Fog Clouds‘ & ‘Underwater‘. On Fog Clouds I was really able to articulate and dig in with the vibe I wanted to instill. ‘Underwater’ is just like a sum of the whole situation and how unfortunate and sad it is and I hope makes people think about the systems and social constructs built around us to divide and manipulate.

What’s on your holiday wishlist this year?
More studio gear. It never ends, I always need something else.

If you could collab with any artist, who would it be and why?

This one took me awhile. I’d have to say Blue Sky Black Death. Those guys have some mixing techniques and production knowledge/skills that is on its own level. I’d like to work with em in the studio, maybe I’d learn somethin’.
