It’s been roughly a years time since the last Taylar Elizza Beth single dropped (or so I thought, she actually dropped “Stop Calling My Phone” appropriately on Valentine’s Day and I have it liked on Soundcloud but somehow that slipped my mind). Dropping by in great form since “Daisies”, Taylar brings us second collab with producer Luis Vela, “Synthesis”. “Synthesis” is a nice little rain drop that provides a nice tranquil contrast to the in your face delivery of “Daisies”. Fresh Cut Flowers is now officially on the way, and today (3/29) is Taylar’s birthday so be sure and spam her DM with HBD’s & rose emojis.
It’s been about a year since you’ve dropped your last single. This is the first single from the Fresh Cut Flowers project, what has been going on in that years time?
Well I actually dropped my last single on Valentine’s Day, which was a collaboration with Luis Vela called “Stop Calling My Phone”. I’ve been doing collabs all year which has been really fun. During that time – I was actually gonna put out Fresh Cut Flowers last June or July, but I decided to completely scrap the project and do something a little bit different. Yeah, I love my product now so I’m finally ready to put out.
I thought this was the first collab with Luis Vela, I didn’t realize the last single was a collab as well. I first saw you guys collab on some photos, was that your first partnership? Did the photos come first and then the production, or was it the other way around?
I’ve known Luis for a couple years now, maybe 3 years, 2 years? We met via Instagram and we got together, and he gave me the beat for “Synthesis”. He gave me the beat in 2015 or something like that. It’s actually a song from his project, he put out his own project and the instrumental is on there and he told me I could have it because I had wrote my own song to it. He had to take a step back for personal reasons, I didn’t hear from him so I thought I was never gonna put the song out. I’m not just gonna put the song out not knowing if he’s ok with it, it’s his beat and everything. I linked up with him last year, he actually came to my Soul-Fi show, he heard the song, I decided to do it anyway, and he was like “You have my blessing”. So, that was kinda cool. Ever since we’ve just been kinda working together on the last single that I did, and then he asked me to model for some of his photos with my friend Zena and that was fun too. He does so much! He’s a photographer, and a producer, he does hella shit.
If you had to explain the inspiration or subject matter behind “Synthesis”, how would you explain it?
“Synthesis” is pretty much my story thus far, I would say. Story telling kinda gives the listener an idea of where I came from. I talk about where I came from, my childhood being onstage and being character’s. That’s a reference to growing up and being in like, theater production and kinda more a metaphor for having to fit into different identities, which is kinda deep. It talks about what I’m doing now, which is you know, this is what I want to be doing, I want to be a really big artist, a performer, I wanna be rich, I want all of these things. It also talks about the future a little bit too in regards to where I see myself. Like I say “I know this is gonna happen”. It also kinda nods to some of my experiences in the Hip-Hop community between when I first started and now. When I first started, there was a lot of people, mostly men, who underestimated me, and I still feel like I’m underestimated sometimes. It doesn’t bother me because I know I’m the shit and I’m not worried about it. Yeah, so it’s kinda like “Hey I’m gonna do this, and it’s gonna be really big, and it doesn’t really matter if you’re into it or not.
What is next after this single? When can we expect the project and what’s the next big thing we can look forward to?
So, the project comes out next month. I don’t have an exact release date, but it’s gonna be in April for sure. After that, I’m working on a collab project with a local producer that I can’t say who it is yet, but it’s gonna be a really cool surprise. We’re doing the whole project together so it’s all gonna be produced by this person who is, in my opinion, the greatest producer in the Seattle/Tacoma area.
Today is your Birthday which is why you’re dropping the single. Do you have any dope Birthday plans this year?
Yeah I’m actually gonna be leaving for L.A. soon, and when I get back I’m just gonna try to put as many videos as I can. I’m also gonna be trying to do more model collab projects. I really just wanna focus on visuals. Just working through the summer, putting out another project before the summer starts, and just cranking out as much music as possible!
