Underground Hype: Papa Gizzle

Interview By Carrick Wenke

Definitely a veteran of the Seattle Rap scene, Papa Gizzle, or better known to some as Foongizzle the God has been steadily working since dropping his first project Economy Class in 2012. Fresh off of dropping his latest project Soul Speech, to much acclaim, Foon continues to push his brand F.L.O.$.$., in the name of his fallen partner $uave Colossal, and perform shows in and around the Northwest.

Who Are You? What Do You Wanna Tell The World About Yourself?
Foongizzle The God aka Papa Gizzle. I wanna inspire the world to think fly.

What/Who Are Your Main Inspirations For Making Music?
My brother $uave Colossal. #RIP. We joint our movements FBI (FlyestBoysInnit), and FirstClass and were working on a joint EP when he passed. There are some singles that where later released as #UnfinishedBusiness.

Who Are Some Producers You Work With?
For this next project I’m working with Mr.704 North Carolina producers that produced the single “Highway” on the SoulSpeech project .

Who Are Some Producers You Work With?
My brother from another Cool Grande, the female flame spitter A.M.A, and anyone claiming YACHTZ or FLO$$ .  I got love for a handful of the wave makers here in the city, but it’s mainly a family affair  around here .

Who Are Some Artists You Wish To Work With In The Future?
Curren$y, Andre 3k/ Organized Noise, Black Hippy.

Who is God Blessin’?
All the trap niggas and forever FLO$$.

Can you explain the origins of your movement F.L.O.$.$., and what it’s become from day one to now?
Originally it was the title for the project $uave was releasing after we dropped our joint EP and it was something he said a lot.  After he passed in honor of his name we let it rock and it formed into the growing movement it is today with support from his family. Our brother laid down the foundation for some progressive and real positive shit, we just had to run with it .

Fly Life Over Sucka Shit .

You spent a while working on your latest release, Soul Speech, what was the creative process/journey like in putting the project together?
No rules, just music. I took my time with the project because I was taking my artistry a different direction in many ways. There was no format being followed but there was a very specific vision for the project as a whole.
Truly is what the title says, raw and unfiltered internal thoughts and experiences, Illustrated over the beats that matched the vibe of that songs  story.
My soul speaking.
With every tape I do the track listing very purposefully, I want you to see the energy that made me rap the way I did over that specific beat.

What was your favorite late 90s/early 2000s Disney channel original movie?
Lion King.

When Can We Expect Your Next Project To Drop?
The next single project I got for everyone is going to be all the way ready sometime summer 2k17 it’s called StreetSpeech.
I have a couple feature singles and projects in the works so there is a lot of new music coming right at the start of the year also.
