Why 2016 will go out with a BANG

By: Lauren Royer

Maybe it’s just me, but 2016 was kind of a ridiculous year. As we enter the last 2 months of this year, I will say it was a pretty good one for music. A lot of incredible new artists careers were born and some great projects were released that were not your average cut and paste. This is great news! Even better news is this year’s HipHop music hasn’t finished landing yet. Check the link for HipHop DX to see scheduled drops for the ever hairy November and holly jolly December. There’s quite a few big ones I’m looking forward to bumping, to include:

A Tribe Called Quest: “We’ve got it from Here… Thank You 4 Your Service”
Drop Date: November 11
If I need to explain why this drop is a big deal.. The famed and very old school group is dropping their first project in 18 years, and it’s their final one. The group (and the world) recently suffered the loss of Phife Dawg, their founding member. My research on the album promises features by Kendrick Lamar, Elton John, André 3000, Jack White, and Busta Rhymes. It’ll no doubt be spectacular and honoring to the entire group. I know I’m not the only one also low key stoked for that Busta Rhymes track.

E-40: “The D-Boy Diary Books 1 & 2”
Drop Date: November 18
*E-40 voice* OOooh! Double release? Like Damn E-40, you’ve been saving up! The project hosts a number of current artists such as Gucci Mane, Lil B, G-Eazy, Nef The Pharaoh, Droop-E, Jay Rock, Kid Ink, B-Legit. All those tracks gonna keep you warm straight til’ March!

Tech N9ne: “The Storm”
Drop Date: December 9
Just look at Tech N9ne standing in that epic rain storm. From what I can tell, haters are not sucking on jellysickles and there is some serious hype for this one. Some say this will be his best project yet! I have a feeling it’s going to be a modernized version of the unique classic Tech N9ne we all love. I’m waiting!

Post Malone: “Stoney”
Drop Date: December 9
Moving away from all the old school revival type stuff, Post Malone is also dropping “Stoney” before the year is up. We’ve been getting a little Pre Post Malone tease with tracks like “Congratulations” that dropped yesterday. Also recently released this year was “Deja Vu” with Justin Bieber as well as “Go Flex”. I don’t really know what to expect out of this one, but I am intrigued by the newly leaked track list as it features Kehlani, Quavo, and 2 Chainz.

Peace out 2016, it’s been real.
